Freedom Giveaway Hop

Many thanks to I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and Simply Stacie for hosting the Freedom Giveaway Hop!  I am glad to be taking part in this hop.  I must say, I am very grateful for my freedoms and liberties.  As a veteran that served in the United States Navy, I cherish my freedoms and am grateful for all those that served before me and continue to serve.

I will be giving away a copy of BEAUTIFUL CREATURES by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Of course, like always, you DO NOT HAVE to be a follower via GFC, Twitter or Facebook, but I would certainly appreciate it!  :)  To enter, please leave a comment, share a bit about what freedom means to you!  Be sure to include an email to contact you!  Additional entries for each way you follow (but not required).  ALSO, if you served, please comment with your branch of service and service dates and I will put your name ‘in the hat’ for a little something extra!!  This giveaway is open to both U.S. residents as well as Canadian residents (my mom is a native of Edmonton!  Shout out to all my Canadian family!).

Enjoy your holiday and be sure to take time to be grateful for your freedoms!

Mondays Bite Chapters 1-5

I am so excited to be participating in the Twilight Re-Read Along!  This event is being hosted by Ginger over at GReads along with Yani, Jacinda, Jasmine, & Lisa.  I hope you all will grab your copy of Twilight so you too can revisit Forks and the world of Bella & Edward that Stephenie Meyer has created.  I have been on the fence about reading the series again and this read-along is the perfect excuse to pick up and do it!

This week we are reading chapters 1-5.  The discussion questions for these chapters are below.  The answers to these questions and a linky to link up with everyone else will be posted NEXT Monday, July 4th at Lisa’s blog.  I am excited to take part in this bloggy book discussion!  Be sure to check back and join the discussion!!  If you want to read along and join the discussion you can still sign up over at GReads!

1. Have you ever had to start over in a new place, like Bella did in Forks? This new place could be a school, job, or town… just something with a new setting. How easy or difficult was this for you?
I have had to start over, several times.  I grew up in the same town and always wanted to move, a change.  I never really liked being in such a small town and never really experiencing anyone or anything “new”.  After high school, I decided to join the Navy.  That began my “starting over”.  First it was boot camp, then A School, then my first command…I married and at the end of my enlistment I decided to get out.  I, however, was married to a Navy man and our transitions continued.  I have “started over” in VA, FL, TX, OK, RI, IL and then back to OK to start over again.  It never really is easy, but it is often fun.  I must say, the older I get, the harder it seems to make “good” friends.

2. Do you picture the actors from the movie as the characters in the book while you are reading?
I do picture the actors from the movie as the characters.  I think Edward and Bella were cast perfectly.  I was really impressed with how the actors captured the characters that I had envisioned.

3. What are your first thoughts on meeting Edward in Bella’s Biology class? At first he was annoyed by her presence, but then after a week away he returns & finds him self very interested in her. Do you think this helped or hindered the storyline?
I think that this very much helped the storyline.  I found that Edward’s reaction to her kind of set a tone of his vulnerability that seems otherwise unshakable.  I think that this part of their meeting was absolutely essential to set the tone of the fine line that they will continue to walk throughout the book.

4. Out of the secondary characters Bella meets at school, who is your favorite and why? (I am referring to the humans, not the vampires in this question)
As irritating as I find Mike Newton, I would have to say that he is one of my favorites.  I guess it is because he tries so hard and I can probably name a few IRL people that I know that are just like him.  I also really like Charlie.  I like the book Charlie more than the movie Charlie.  He is her dad and he loves her dearly and just is so awkward, it is charming.

5. There is a lot of dialogue between Edward and Bella in these first few chapters that I feel played a major role in developing their relationship. What are some of your favorite quotes? or moments?
I love when they are at the lunch table.  When he finally invites her over.  There is so much unspoken that goes on between them at the table.  It is very exciting knowing he shouldn’t be establishing a relationship with Bella and does so anyway.  I also really love when he rescues her from the van and she knows so much, yet understands so little.  Nonetheless, she is willing to cover for him.  I love those moments.

Be sure to visit Greads and link up and join the fun!

Sunday Stew {5}

Sunday Stew is a Weekly Meme hosted lovingly by Books Devoured.  Feel free to visit and link up and share!  I am super excited to actually be linking up for the FOURTH consecutive week.  I am on it!!  :) Hopefully this is a good sign that I might be actually getting my stuff together!

BOOKMARK OF THE WEEK:

Well, I am once again using mainly my Nook for reading, so I am using my handy blue tag…I wonder if I can change the color of it, i would really prefer a red one.  Although, I must let you know, Sonia Gensler was handing out some super cute bookmarks and I plan to use it soon!

AROUND THE WEB:

Ginger over at GReads is getting ready to host a TWILIGHT re-read along!  I am really looking forward to reading the book (series) that reminded me how much I love to escape into a book.  I know that there are a billion girls out there that will scream like groupies telling you how much they love Twilight, but I do.  I love it.  I love the love story and the characters.  I love the love that Edward has, and the lengths he goes to just to be with his forbidden love.  It is awesome.  Ok, anyway, if you would like to take part, it isn’t too late!  Just pop on over to Ginger’s blog GReads and sign up!  I would love to ‘see’ you there!

Also, I will be taking part in the Midsummer’s Eve Giveaway Blog Hop hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer.  It runs June 21-24.  Be sure to stop back by and enter for your chance to win a great summer read!!

AROUND ME:

Once again, another busy week.  I swear this summer is busier than the school year.  My kids didn’t drive me too crazy this week and I didn’t need to break out the duct tape…so, good week :)  Of course it was the usual stuff, football camps, gymnastics, swimming, guitar and so forth.  But man, does it HAVE to be so stinking HOT?  Looks like Oklahoma is going to break another record today!  When I got in my car on Saturday afternoon (4p.m.) and it reads this….

Yes, that reads 107, you know it is a hot one!!  But getting out in that heat was worth it.  After getting all my food delivered to a double header baby shower, I ditched it and headed down to Barnes and Noble for a signing of The Revenant by Sonia Gensler.  Let me tell you, she is so sweet.  There were a lot of her former colleagues there in line supporting her and they all had so many wonderful things to say about her.  I think it is just awesome that in the month of June our local area here in Oklahoma has launched two debut YA authors.  It has also led me to meet a few Oklahoma bloggers via Twitter, and I really hope that we can plan a little get together sometime soon!  Ok…so here is a gracious Sonia Gensler and myself at her signing.

Let me just say this…I know that I am short, but when I saw this pic, I was like “DANG, I am really short” :)  She was so super sweet and it was great to meet her.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to start your week.  I must say, this whole Sunday Stew deal is the most fun pot of stuff I cook up all week!  AND, I have yet to burn it or put too much salt in it!!

Cheers!

Spring Into Summer Update #11

Update:

  • Total Books Read: 2
  • Total Pages Read: 498
  • Books Read Since Last Update: 1
  • Pages Read since last update: 405
  • Total time read: 8hrs
  • How I’m currently feeling: I’m feeling good.  I really wanted to read more today.  I know, day isn’t over yet…I am hoping to head to bed at 10 and finish reading!!

Mini Challenge:  If you could live in the world of one book, which would it be and why?

I think I would want to live in the world that was the setting of The Goddess Test.  I chose this because it seems like it is a very powerful world.  Also, it is a little dark.  For some reason I keep getting pulled to the ‘dark side’.  :)  The world itself isn’t dark and hell-like, but the power is.  The grounds actually seems very pleasant and fulfilling.  I think it would be neat to have whatever you wanted within your reach.  I liked the setting that was created in The Goddess Test, I was able to get a vivid visualization.

Now…back to try to read AND to get some stinky kids in the shower and bed!!

Spring Into Summer Report #1

Holy cow!  I was really looking forward to throwing my kids in the pool and doing nothing but reading and occasionally throwing some more sunscreen on them.  Oh how plans change!!  Apparently, it just wasn’t going to happen for me on Friday!

First of all, give us an end-of-day status update. Books read, pages read, you know the drill!

  • Total Books Read: 1, if Pink Princess Rules the School Counts
  • Total Pages Read: 93
  • Books Read Since Last Update: 1
  • Pages Read since last update: 93
  • Total time read: 1 1/2 hour
  • What I’m currently reading: Hereafter, by:  Tara Hudson, Twilight
  • How I’m currently feeling: Terrible, I really anticipated reading more and it just isn’t falling into place today.  Too many last minute demands.  Don’t people know I’d rather be reading?

What is the favorite thing you have read today?

While Pink Princess was captivating, as well as Hereafter, I am going to have to say going through Twilight again was my             favorite.    I don’t know what it is about that book, it gets me every single time!

Which mini-challenge was your favorite?
Sadly, I did not even get the chance to participate in the challenges.

What has been your favorite thing about the read-a-thon?
The WHOLE idea of the read-a-thon is totally awesome!  I guess the best part, even though I am not getting to read as much as I’d like, my daughter is flying through her princess books and picking out more.  Ahhh, the joys of being a child :)

What has been your LEAST favorite thing about the read-a-thon?
My time!  I really didn’t expect to have the laundry list of things come up that has.  My day began at 6 am and gymnastics would have ended just as the read-a-thon started and my kids were supposed to be in the pool.  BUT, add one teenager, a tweenager, a baby shower, a last minute appointment and a trip to Sam’s and Wal-Mart and the day is shot!!

Are you on track to meet your goals?
HECK to the no. If I want to meet my goal I need to read all of Hereafter tomorrow as well as The Revenant (Which I am picking up today when I go to meet Sonia Gensler). I am sure I can get through one, but not the other.

Will you be participating tomorrow? Do you have any new goals?
Yes, and I just really want to finish Hereafter.  BUT…I AM going down to meet Sonia Gensler, so that has to count for something!!  I am hoping to see Tara Hudson as well!!  It is pretty awesome having two Oklahoma YA authors debuting the same month!!!  I will definitely update you on the experience!

TGIF {6}

Oh THANK GOODNESS IT’S FRIDAY!!!  I am so ready for the weekend!  How about you?  What a week (or two) it has been!  Kids are on summer break and with our early morning schedules I am really ready for Friday afternoon to signal the end of the craziness!  I look forward to my TGIF posts and get so disappointed when the week flies by and I don’t get this post up!  Thanks to Ginger over at GReads for hosting TGIF.  If you want to link up, feel free!!

This Friday’s Question:

And I Quote: What are some of your favorite book quotes?

——————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Oh man…so many!  I feel like I am going to forget some…but here goes….

You can’t live your life for other people. You’ve got to do what’s right for you, even if it hurts some people you love.”
— The Notebook
“You are the answer to every prayer I’ve offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don’t know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have.” — The Notebook

“My daddy said, that the first time you fall in love, it changes you forever and no matter how hard you try, that feeling just never goes away.”—The Notebook

“The greater the love, the greater the tragedy when it’s over.” — Nights in Rodanthe
“His cold touch on my skin never failed to make my heart thud erratically.  Twice, when that happened, I caught a look on his face that made me sure he could somehow hear it.” — Bella, Twilight
“I was a vampire, and she had the sweetest blood I’d smelled in eighty years.”–Edward, Midnight Sun

“I bit a pillow, maybe two.”–Edward, Breaking Dawn

“I walk up right behind Frannie, where she’s sitting near the door, in time to hear her say, “You know what, Tay? Go to Hell,” and I smile, because I think it’s cute that she’s inviting her friends along.”—Luc, Personal Demons

“Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you.“–If I Stay

“I’m not choosing, but I’m running out of fight.”–If I Stay

“You were so busy trying to be my savior that you left me all alone.”–Where She Went

“It’s my turn to see you through,’ she whispers, coming back to me and wrapping me in her blanket as I lose my shit all over again. She holds me until I recover my Y chromosome.”–Where She Went

I know there are lots more, I am sure this post will be updated or I will be adding some in the comments, but these are somewhat fresh for me…and they are from my favorite books…

Have a great weekend!!

Sunday Stew {4}

Sunday Stew is a Weekly Meme hosted lovingly by Books Devoured.  Feel free to visit and link up and share!  I am super excited to actually be linking up for the THIRD consecutive week.  I am feeling it!!  :)  Hopefully this is a good sign that I might be actually getting my stuff together!

Bookmark of the Week:

This week has got to be my easiest week yet!  No forks for me this week!!  I have been reading on my Nook this week, so the bookmark of choice is my handy dandy little electronic blue thingy.

Around the Web:

This week I have kept Squeaky Books page open all week with the intent of signing up for the Spring Into Summer Read-a-thon.  It looks like a really great time!  It takes place next weekend, June 17-18 and will have Mini-challenges, hourly giveaways and a great opportunity to interact and make new friends.  Not to mention a really good excuse to get the kids reading and do nothing but read!!  If you get an opportunity check it out and sign up.  I hope to have my post done here soon!!

Around Me:

This week has been another busy week.  It has been good, but busy!    This week has brought about my oldest son’s 14th birthday. It is hard for me to believe that I have a 14 year-old child.  He’s been taller than me for a while and now he is really beginning to look like a man.  It is kind of scary for me to think about all the milestones that are approaching just a little too quickly.  I certainly wish time would slow down just a little. I would post a pic of him posing with his new 32 GB ipod touch (that is way cooler than what I got for my birthday), but I promised him I wouldn’t post any pics on my site or on Facebook.  Now my daughter, she’d be a different story!!

I also had a great opportunity to meet Tara Hudson, author of Hereafter, at her book signing in Oklahoma City.  Downfall to reading things on the Nook, hard for authors to sign :)  BUT, my hard copy of her book should be to me soon!  Let me just say, meeting such a sweet person made the book just that much more appealing.  I think that it is truly wonderful to be an incredible author AND a sweet and kind person.  Look for my review soon.

Didn’t her mother take such a great picture?  :)  She seemed to have an incredible support network, it was truly awesome to see that!!

Wishing you all the very best this week!!

Cheers!
