Summary: (from Goodreads)
When tragedy strikes, seventeen year-old Ashton Blake sets out on a cross-country road trip, leaving the comforts of Malibu for the mountains of Kentucky. Along the way, she encounters Gabe Willoughby—the mysterious drifter with eyes like the sea and a knowing smile. Getting to know Gabe raises questions about her past. But no secret can be buried forever, and Ashton soon finders herself in a world where water is air and myth becomes reality.
Just as Ashton comes to accept her newfound heritage, she’s summoned to fulfill a treaty laid down centuries before — a treaty that will divide her love and test her loyalty. In the end, her future isn’t her biggest concern, her humanity is. To run may mean war, but is she strong enough to stay?
I have to admit, this is a first of its kind for me. I don’t recall reading this type of fantasy before and probably would have shied away from it in earlier times. I am glad I was included on this ARC blog tour, because it gave me an opportunity to venture out and try a different kind of book. I have to say, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The story was real enough to captivate me and hold my interest from beginning to end.
From the very beginning I found myself guessing. I enjoy an unpredictable story and The Willows: Haven definitely was unpredictable. I found myself making assumptions, only to be wrong consistently throughout. Now, I don’t usually like to be wrong, except about the way a story is going to go. If I can predict too much, it isn’t much of a story and I get rather bored, NOT at all the case with this one. I certainly was filled will surprise and many other emotions throughout, and the amount of emotion certainly surprised me! I always enjoy a book with characters that I can actually feel their emotions. It makes the story seem that much more real. This book contained just the right amounts of mystery, intrigue and romance…good read!
Expect the unexpected when you pick up your copy of The Willows: Haven. I appreciate being included in the blog tour and the exposure to yet another book that I may not have picked up. I honestly never would have thought that I would have enjoyed a book about nymphs so much. A super big plus to getting to know other bloggers and getting involved in their tours.
