Sunday Stew {3}

Sunday Stew is a Weekly Meme hosted lovingly by Books Devoured.  Feel free to visit and link up and share!  I am super excited to actually be linking up for the SECOND consecutive week.  I am so on it!!  :)  Just kidding!  Hopefully this is a good sign that I might be actually getting my stuff together!

Bookmark of the Week:

This week is a bit of a step up from last week, but sadly I have yet to use one of my pretty bookmarks.  Instead I have used a delivery confirmation receipt and a birthday card.  The birthday card is actually a pretty darn good bookmark as it smells like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg!

Around the Web:

Well, this week was kind of slow, although there seemed to be a lot of hops going on and I always like to click through them and check out new blogs.  But, I think the most exciting thing to happen was the article posted in the Wall Street Journal that pretty much took shots at YA literature.  It really caused quite a stir and if you are on twitter, you may have noticed the #yasaves in a lot of tweets.  It is quite a controversial article and I plan to post my thoughts on it this week.

Around Me:

This week was a crazy fun week.  It was the first full week of summer break for my kiddos and my 6 year-old was up at the crack of dawn ready to get in the pool and ready to drive me crazy ever single day!  She has been in the pool everyday but one since school let out!  My 11 year-old had football three days this week and he was not happy to learn that it began at 9 a.m.  He is so much like me it is crazy!  Neither one of us is a pleasant, early morning person.  Although, I think that if he had to practice any later in this Oklahoma heat he would gladly do 9 a.m.!  My daughter (6) began her summer schedule for gymnastics which wasn’t bad, except for Friday, when we had to be there by 8 a.m.!  Have I ever mentioned that I am not a morning person?  UGH!  Thursday was my birthday (be sure you enter my birthday month giveaway) and I hit the top of the hill!  It was a fun celebration as my kids were super excited to plan a celebration for me.  I am looking forward to this weekend as my first-born turns 14.  I am still not quite sure what to do for him, so if you have any ideas, please share!  He’s a good kid and doesn’t even want much for his birthday, just an i-pod and an x-box.  He got a kicking guitar last year, so it may be hard to top it…

So, if you have any ideas of what might be a SUPER cool gift idea for a 14 year-old boy that likes rock music and jamming on his guitar let me know!!  Maybe if I go with your idea I will send you one of my really pretty bookmarks (that I unfortunately fail to use)!!

I hope that you have a great week and I look forward to seeing you back here next week…

Sunday Stew

Sunday Stew is a Weekly Meme hosted lovingly by Books Devoured.  Feel free to visit and link up and share!  I have been a bit of a slacker here lately and I promise, promise, promise to do better!!  I am hoping that the lazy days of summer (you can all stop laughing) will allow me more free time (please, just stop) to kick back, relax, read and write (ok, seriously, get yourselves together).  Or maybe I will just make sure that my site and all the memes and things I want to participate in get done!

Book Mark of the Week:

I have used several things for book marks this week here is my list:

  • band-aid tab thingy
  • gum wrapper
  • gas receipt
  • index card with foreign writing from my daughter’s back-pack, I guess she was writing in code or something
  • fork…yes, a fork.   Don’t worry, it was clean, it just happened to be within reach when needed and it worked really well, but wasn’t exactly the most attractive book mark.

I am somewhat ashamed as I tend to make some beautiful book thongs that I have been giving away as gifts.  I guess I should make one for myself :)

Around the Web:

This week I was so excited to take part in Armchair BEA!  It was so much fun.  I was really hoping to attend BEA11 in New York, but due to my obligations at home, it just didn’t happen this year.  I was so thrilled to come across the Armchair BEA link and get in on the fun.  It really was a great time and it didn’t cost me a dime…and I met a bunch of new bloggers, learned some new things and even received some great books!  I highly recommend taking part in it next year if you are unable to attend the actual BEA conference!  Be sure to be on the lookout for something new to come to my site that is an actual idea birthed via Armchair BEA!!  I am so excited!

Around Me:

Oh my heck!!!!  This week was INSANE!!  It was the last week of school for my kids.  I now have a 9th grader, 7th grader and a 2nd grader.  Time flies so fast!  Anyway, my 8th grader had finals, so he was wrapping up projects, papers and studying.  My 6th grader was supposed to have a super nice awards/promotion ceremony on Tuesday night.  Well, we live in Oklahoma and on Monday they warned us to prepare for a day of tornado outbreaks on Tuesday (I love OK weathermen, they are so on it)!  SOOOOO…Tuesday morning I prepare.  I spent the day making sure my van fit in my garage (still filled with boxes from the move), checked lanterns, batteries, radios, helmets, shelter plans etc.  The schools all over OKC canceled all activities including my son’s ceremony.  Kids got home from school and we prepared for what could be a very catastrophic night (we survived the F-5 of 5/3/99 we know how bad it can get).  Thanks goodness we had a plan as the picture below came too close to devastation.

Needless-to-say, we were very fortunate that little fella didn’t touch down.  We heard it go overhead and that was enough to scare the pants off of us!  Others in our metro area were not so fortunate and it has been a sad week for Okies.  BUT, on the bright side, my kids were able to finish up school, ceremony was hosted last minute the following day by our gracious high school and the rugrats have been in the pool since Friday!  AND my 6th grader left school for a huge night of fun in one of these….

Life is good!  I hope you all have an incredible week!  As we enter June (my birthday month) be sure to visit often as I hope to have a few celebration giveaways!!

Book Blogger Hop 5/27

Happy Summer Vacation :) for most of us anyway!

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Crazy-For-Books.  It is a great little place to link up, check out new blogs and interact with other book bloggers.

Book Blogger Hop

This week’s question comes from Britta who blogs at I Like These Books:

“What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked?  Which have you disliked?”

I thought this would be really easy to answer, but it isn’t.  I guess one I have liked is New Moon.  I really enjoyed the Twilight series but thought New Moon was kind of long and drawn out.  When I saw the movie I thought they did a pretty good job of condensing and making it a good film.
The first movie that popped in my mind as a huge disappointment was The Lovely Bones.  The movie just didn’t it do the book justice.  I absolutely loved the book and was so thoroughly disappointed by the movie.  I really wish the movie would have been done a little bit better.  I often find that there are more times than not that I am disappointed in a movie based on a book.  I still believe that reading the actual book is much better than a movie any day!
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  Be sure to take a moment to reflect and remember those who gave all in service of this great nation.

TGIF (I know, it’s Sunday)

TGIF is a weekly meme hosted by Ginger over at Greads and is a little spot where we can post a recap of the week and where she also gives us a question to ponder…be sure to go on over and check out all the other blogs that link up.  It is a great way to get to know others in the blogging community.  You never know when your new bff will post up through a linky :)

This week’s question is….

Fictional Places:

If you could visit any fictional setting in a story, where would you go?

Holy cow…I know it is Sunday but if ever a week to go TGI freaking F it has been this week!  So, therefore I will still post my Friday post on this lovely Sunday night.  Why?  Well, just because…

If I could visit a fictional setting one of the first I would want to go to is to England in National Velvet.  Just to be in Sussex surrounded with the stables, green land and horses…It was the very first movie I ever saw in a theater after reading the book and I was in heaven.  I was so little and don’t remember everything, but after the Easter bunny visits I will be reading the book again with my daughter and I can’t wait to visit the Grand National Steeplechase again!

Another place I would love to visit is the setting of The Great Gatsby…mainly just the clothes and the cars and maybe a little of aristocricy.  The opulent parties, the prohibition, and wild jazz music just seems like quite a time!

My last choice would be Pemberly Brown from the Liar Society.  The setting seems so mysterious and full of adventure.  Well, of course then as I type this I am thinking, oh but wait, I’d love to be sent to Westhaven from Haven and who wouldn’t love to go away to boarding school in Paris like in Anna and The French Kiss.  I guess some of my favorite imaginary places to be are some of my favorite books!

Thanks Ginger for hosting…hopefully this next week my Friday will actually coincide with Friday!

Have a great week!

Super Cover Sunday {1}

It is like destiny to come across a Twitter post from @SeeingNight (Seeing Night Reviews) about a new meme revealing a favorite cover.  You see, just last night I had gotten a copy of Laura Kreitzer’s just released cover for FORSAKEN HARBOR and it is absolutely gorgeous!  I love all of the colors used on the front and absolutely love the back design and how the light seems to embrace you and draw you in.  Honestly, I swear I can almost feel the heat radiating off of the back cover the image is so tangible.  Red is my absolute favorite color and quite frankly, I almost always pick up a red book. The gold complements the darker colors and is so very appealing to the eye.  I also love how the young lady is luminous without being overwhelming, she is certainly a focal point, but yet blends so beautifully in with the overall design.  I hope you enjoy the beauty of this cover as I do!  Great job Laura on such a beautiful cover!

The front cover of FORSAKEN HARBOR…

and the whole cover…

I am a total cover junkie, so I have been known to pick up a book without reading a lick about it simply because it had an intriguing cover.  FORSAKEN HARBOR is one of those books that I would most definitely grab without a second thought.

Feel free to leave a comment about your opinions of the freshly revealed cover!!  I would love to hear what you have to say!!

Thank you to Kristen for hosting the meme!  Be sure to look for more cover selections every Sunday!
